Que1) Define democracy. State 2 merits and 2 demerits of democracy.
 
Ans) Democracy is a form of government in which the rulers are elected by the people.
2 merits of democracy are:
1)It respect people's own wishes and  allows different kinds of people to live together.
2)It allows to correct the mistakes and offers more dignity to all citizens.
2 demerits of democracy are:
1)Leaders keep changing in a democracy leads to instability.
2)There is no scope for morality and is all about political competitions and power play.

Que2) "Elections in China do not respect people's verdict."Explain.

Ans) In China, elections are held after every five years for electing the country's parliament, Quanguo Renmin Daibiao Dahui(National People's Congress). Before contesting elections, a candidate needs the approval of the Chinese Communist Party. The government is always formed by the Communist Party.
Therefore, the elections held in China are not free and fair. It is always restricted and put a hold by the Communist Party and so, the elections do not represent people verdict in China.

Que3) Compare China and Mexico's democracy.

Ans) China-1)The elections do not offer the people any serious choice.
2)They have to choose the ruling party and the candidates approved by it.
Mexico-1)People seemed to really have a choice but in practice they had no choice.
2)There was no way the ruling party could be defeated, even if people were against it.

Que4) How a democratic government should work?

Ans)1)Respect some guarantees to the minorities.
2)Every major decision has to go through a series of consultations.
3)Constitutions and law assign certain rights and responsibility to every office bearer.
4)Accountable to citizens and other officials.

Que5) "Democracy is better than any form of government because it allows us to correct its own mistakes."Explain.

Ans)There is no guarantee that mistakes cannot be made in democracy. The mistakes cannot be hidden for long. There is a space for public discussion or these mistakes. And there is room for correction. Either the rulers have to change their decisions, or the rulers can be changed.

Que6) "Democracy is the most popular form of government emerging in the modern times, still the shortcomings cannot be ruled out." Justify the statement by assessing any five shortcomings of democracy.

Ans) Some shortcomings of democracy are as follow:
1)Large amount to prevalent corruption among government officials.
2)Choosing wrong government officials.
3) Takes time to make decisions.
4)Favors only the majority.
5)Voting becomes a personal choice instead of an aspect of the country's betterment and some don't take it seriously.
